March 31, 2012 in Death Row Inmates Last Words
Cameron Todd Willingham’s last words before execution by lethal injection on February 17, 2004 were:
“Yeah. The only statement I want to make is that I am an innocent man convicted of a crime I did not commit. I have been persecuted for 12 years for something I did not do. From God’s dust I came and to dust I will return, so the earth shall become my throne. I gotta go, Road Dog. I love you Gabby.”
Following this last statement, Willingham than addressed his ex-wife Stacy Kuykendall who watched from 8 feet away through a window where he continued on to say, “I hope you rot in hell…” His ex-wife had came to no longer believe in her husbands innocence and following the trial publicized her change of heart. Willingham’s criminal case has long been contested with present belief adhering to his original innocence from the crime he was convicted of in arson and the death of his three children in 1991.
